Thailand remains unique in Asian history as being the only country to never have been colonized by European powers.

Thailand’s economy is export driven, and exports account for over 60% of the GDP of the country. Thai cuisine is world renown and rice and seafood products make up a large part of the exports. Rubber is another key export.

Apparel and the automotive industry along with computer components and electrical parts, are key drivers.

Tourism dominates, with over 6% of the GDP. Niche segments include diving, cuisine, culture, adventure, sex tourism and medical tourism. Thai women outnumber men in the financial sector. The Chinese community is significant in business and many Chinese owned businesses in Thailand are a part of the larger “bamboo network” of Chinese family owned businesses across South East Asia.
