Program Overview

Singapore — a small island nation with no natural resources — has built itself into one of the world’s most dynamic economies, with a GDP exceeding US$430 billion and consistent rankings at the top of global human development indices. Its journey from independence to economic powerhouse offers one of the most studied development stories in modern history, and an unmatched live case study for students of business, public policy, and international development.

This program provides an insider’s view of Singapore’s economy with a focus on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) — the businesses that make up 99% of all enterprises, employ 72% of the workforce, and contribute over half of Singapore’s GDP. Students engage directly with SME support agencies, innovation hubs, financial institutions, government bodies, and entrepreneurs to understand both the opportunities and the challenges of running a business in one of the world’s most competitive, regulated, and globally connected economies.

Beyond the boardroom, students experience Singapore’s extraordinary multicultural heritage — Peranakan, Chinese, Malay, Indian, and colonial threads woven into the city’s neighborhoods, food, and architecture. From a Singapore River cruise past the Merlion to a hawker lunch at Lau Pa Sat and a stroll through the UNESCO-listed Botanic Gardens, the cultural immersions deepen each student’s understanding of how Singapore’s identity shapes its business environment.
